The only server I'm not sure how to handle is an older server that doesn't have an iDRAC. I've got consoles on ALL my iDRACs back! So sweet. They were all sorely out of date, but the management software determined the appropriate versions, queued the correct order, and I have just wrapped up updating each firmware to the latest. I gave it a shot, deployed the VMware template, got it configured and my servers added. Then I read about a new Dell software called OpenManage Enterprise. I let the tech update the one server we needed the console for, but all my other Dell servers were left wanting. In fact, I've not been able to use my Dell DRAC to remotely connect to the console because they all used Java, which I no longer have on my workstations and didn't work with my updated browsers.Ĭue a tech support call to Dell, who mentioned that the firmware on the DRAC could be updated to include HTML5 instead, but the firmware updates on the machine were tricky because there are about 5 - 10 to apply, they have to be applied in a specific order, etc. My current set of servers has sat at the same firmware versions for many years.
